We are one of the oldest walking clubs in the country, formed in 1885 as a social club of the then Regent Street Polytechnic which is now the University of Westminster. Today we are happy to retain our association with the University (although the majority of our current members have no connection with it) and we will be celebrating our 140th anniversary in 2025. We are an active friendly Club and welcome members of all ages and backgrounds (children under 18 years must be accompanied on walks by a club member).
With a varied programme and a day walk almost every weekend of the year, we also organise several weekends away each year in the UK and continental Europe. Recent trips include walking part of the Norfolk coastal path, a trip to Cirencester and the Cotswolds, Derry in Northern Ireland, Conwy in North Wales and snow walking in the mountains of Austria. Last year we visited Fort William and the surrounding area in Scotland.
Plans for 2024 include weekends away in Northumbria and Italy. Further weekend trips are being planned – details will follow.
All our walks and other activities are based around public transport. Our day walks are mainly around London and the home counties and are typically 7 -10 miles but can range from 5-15 miles depending on the time of year.
