The Club was originally formed in 1885 and is the fourth
oldest rambling club in the country. Its members were
founders of the Federation of Rambling Clubs in 1905,
which body later became the Ramblers' Association to
whose Inner London Area the club is affiliated. As its
name implies the club had strong associations with the
Regent Street Polytechnic, now the University of Westminster,
from which we draw members from both staff and students.
However, membership is open to all, the majority of
our members coming from the general public. Age group
at present is roughly late twenties upwards, some of
our more active members are over fifty. However, there
is no restriction on age and we particularly welcome
walkers from the younger generation.
We use public transport to reach the start of our walks,
meeting at a central London station for the departure
of the train at a time as stated in the programme. However,
if you have a car and would prefer to meet at the start
of the walk, please contact the leader beforehand. Then
if you are held up, the walk can be delayed for up to
ten minutes after the arrival of the train. Distances
are generally between five and twelve miles and lunch
is taken at a country pub. You may be able to eat your
own food in the garden, provided you buy a drink beforehand.
Check with the leader on arrival at the pub.Two to three
times a year we travel further afield on a weekend break
to a scenic walking area, staying overnight at a small
hotel or guest house, travelling either by car or public
transport. Social events include restaurant visits on
Friday evenings and theatre and concert trips at weekends.
We publish a programme of events and a members' newsletter
three times a year, for which we charge an annual membership
fee of £8. For new members, there is an additional
£3.00 joining fee, for which members receive a
Walkers Guide and a copy of the Club's history book,
'Walking Through The Years'.There is no charge for the
walks and there is no need to join the Club until you
have been on at least one or two events.
We hope you will find something of interest in our
programme and look forward to seeing you on the walks.
